S-tier products pair this hardware advantage with a polished app ecosystem, reliable Wi-Fi or Bluetooth syncing, and integration with major health platforms like Apple Health, Google Fit, or Garmin Connect. They also need to handle multi-user households seamlessly, with automatic user recognition and consistent readings over time.
Mid-tier scales typically use standard 4-electrode foot-to-foot BIA, which gives you directional body composition trends but shouldn't be trusted for absolute accuracy on metrics like body fat percentage or muscle mass. These scales often have decent apps and Bluetooth connectivity, but may lack Wi-Fi (meaning your phone must be nearby to sync), have clunky user switching, or offer a flood of 13-20 metrics that are mostly derived estimates rather than independent measurements.
