360mm AIO CPU Cooler Criteria

S-tier 360mm AIOs combine a proven pump platform (typically Asetek Gen 7/8 or a competitive proprietary design), a thick high-fin-density radiator, and fans that balance static pressure with low noise across the RPM range. The best units hold top-tier CPUs like the Ryzen 9 9950X or Core i9-14900K within a few degrees of custom loop performance while staying quiet under sustained load. Software that actually works reliably — whether that's iCUE, NZXT CAM, or a simpler ARGB sync hub — and broad socket compatibility including LGA 1851 and AM5 are table stakes at this level.

Mid-tier B and C products typically use older or lower-spec pump designs, thinner radiators, or fans that either run loud to compensate for reduced static pressure or throttle back and let temperatures climb. Many cut corners on the cold plate finish or use a smaller contact area, which matters most on large-die CPUs. Software is often an afterthought — buggy apps, limited fan curve control, or ARGB sync that requires proprietary headers rather than standard ARGB. These coolers work fine for mainstream CPUs at stock settings but struggle when you push TDPs above 200W.

D and F tier products have fundamental reliability problems: pumps that fail early, cold plates that make poor contact with modern IHS designs, or fans so loud they're unusable at the speeds needed to keep temperatures in check. Unknown brands with no track record, units with documented pump whine or gurgling at launch, and coolers that can't sustain performance under prolonged load all belong here. At this radiator size, there's no excuse for a cooler that can't outperform a good 240mm AIO — if it can't, it's a failure regardless of how many screens or RGB effects it has.
