S
Oral-B iO Series 9 Electric Toothbrush, Rose Quartz (S tier)
Oral-B iO Series 9 Electric Toothbrush, Rose Quartz
The iO Series 9 represents Oral-B's best technology with magnetic drive, 3D tracking via the app, a color display showing real-time feedback, and seven cleaning modes — it's the most feature-complete oscillating-rotating brush available. The only real drawback is that replacement iO heads are significantly more expensive than standard Oral-B heads.
Philips Sonicare DiamondClean Smart 9300 Electric Toothbrush, Pink (S tier)
Philips Sonicare DiamondClean Smart 9300 Electric Toothbrush, Pink
The DiamondClean Smart 9300 combines Sonicare's best sonic technology with app-connected brush head detection, four modes with three intensity levels each (12 settings total), and a pressure sensor — it's the most complete Sonicare available. The glass charging cup and premium travel case round out a package with no meaningful gaps.
A
Philips Sonicare DiamondClean Connected Electric Toothbrush 2 Pack (A tier)
Philips Sonicare DiamondClean Connected Electric Toothbrush 2 Pack
A two-pack of DiamondClean Connected brushes with charging travel cases and A3 heads — this is Sonicare's premium connected technology doubled for households. It narrowly misses S-tier because the Connected model lacks the brush head detection of the DiamondClean Smart 9300, and the app experience hasn't improved significantly.
Oral-B iO Series 7 Deep Clean + Protect Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush, Black (A tier)
Oral-B iO Series 7 Deep Clean + Protect Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush, Black
The iO Series 7 adds a charging travel case and the interactive color display to the iO platform's magnetic drive, pressure sensor, and five modes — it's the step just below the Series 9 with most of the same core technology. It misses S-tier because it lacks the 3D tracking AI guidance of the Series 9.
Philips Sonicare ExpertClean 7300 Electric Toothbrush, Black (A tier)
Philips Sonicare ExpertClean 7300 Electric Toothbrush, Black
The ExpertClean 7300 adds BrushSync technology with brush head detection and app connectivity to the Sonicare platform — it knows which head you're using and adjusts accordingly. It narrowly misses S-tier because the app experience is clunky and the feature gap over the ProtectiveClean 6100 is modest for the price jump.
Oral-B iO Series 5 Deep Clean + Whiten Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush, Black (A tier)
Oral-B iO Series 5 Deep Clean + Whiten Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush, Black
The iO5 Limited delivers five cleaning modes, a visible pressure sensor, and the magnetic drive system with three included heads — it's the iO Series 6 under a different SKU name with slightly better bundled accessories. Strong all-around but still lacks the 3D tracking and display of the Series 9.
Philips Sonicare ProtectiveClean 6100 Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush, Pink (A tier)
Philips Sonicare ProtectiveClean 6100 Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush, Pink
Functionally identical to the HX6877/21 ProtectiveClean 6100 with the same three modes, pressure sensor, and BrushSync — a thoroughly competent mid-premium Sonicare. Misses S-tier for the same reasons: no app integration and limited intensity customization compared to DiamondClean or ExpertClean.
Philips Sonicare 6500 Series Electric Toothbrush, White (A tier)
Philips Sonicare 6500 Series Electric Toothbrush, White
The Sonicare 6500 represents Philips' next-generation platform with nine brushing settings, pressure sensor, and 21-day runtime — a meaningful upgrade over the ProtectiveClean line. It's too new to have extensive long-term data, but the specs and Sonicare pedigree place it firmly in A-tier.
Philips Sonicare ProtectiveClean 6100 Electric Toothbrush (A tier)
Philips Sonicare ProtectiveClean 6100 Electric Toothbrush
The ProtectiveClean 6100 offers three distinct cleaning modes, a functional pressure sensor, and BrushSync head replacement reminders — a well-rounded package that covers what most people need. It falls short of S-tier only because it lacks app connectivity and brush head detection found in higher Sonicare models.
Oral-B iO Series 5 Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush, Black (A tier)
Oral-B iO Series 5 Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush, Black
The iO Series 5 is functionally very similar to the iO5 Limited — five modes, pressure sensor, magnetic drive, and travel case. It's a capable mid-range iO brush that delivers most of the platform's benefits without the premium tier's tracking and display features.
Philips Sonicare ProtectiveClean 5300 Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush, Black (A tier)
Philips Sonicare ProtectiveClean 5300 Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush, Black
The ProtectiveClean 5300 bundles three modes, pressure sensor, BrushSync, two extra heads, and a travel case — essentially the 5100 with better accessories out of the box. It's a strong all-around package that only misses S-tier due to lacking app connectivity and intensity adjustment.
Philips Sonicare ProtectiveClean 5100 Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush, White (A tier)
Philips Sonicare ProtectiveClean 5100 Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush, White
The ProtectiveClean 5100 hits a sweet spot with three cleaning modes including a dedicated gum care setting, pressure sensor, and BrushSync — nearly everything the 6100 offers. It's a half-step below the 6100 primarily in included accessories rather than core functionality.
Oral-B iO Series 6 Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush, Grey Opal (A tier)
Oral-B iO Series 6 Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush, Grey Opal
The iO Series 6 brings the magnetic drive system, visible pressure sensor with color feedback, and five cleaning modes — most of the iO Series 9's core technology without the 3D tracking or interactive display. It's the sweet spot in the iO lineup for people who don't need app-guided brushing maps.
B
SURI 2.0 Sonic Electric Toothbrush with Pressure Sensor, Green (B tier)
SURI 2.0 Sonic Electric Toothbrush with Pressure Sensor, Green
SURI 2.0 adds a pressure sensor and UV-cleaning travel case over the 1.0, addressing its predecessor's biggest weaknesses. It's a well-designed sustainability-focused brush that still can't match the cleaning technology depth or ecosystem of Sonicare and Oral-B at this price.
Oral-B iO Series 3 Deep Clean Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush, Black (B tier)
Oral-B iO Series 3 Deep Clean Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush, Black
The iO Series 3 brings Oral-B's magnetic drive to a lower price point with three cleaning modes and a pressure sensor, but strips out the interactive display, app tracking, and most of the smart features that make the iO line special. It's a solid oscillating brush that doesn't fully justify the iO branding.
Oral-B iO3 Electric Toothbrush, Black (B tier)
Oral-B iO3 Electric Toothbrush, Black
The iO3 brings the magnetic drive and pressure sensor to the most affordable iO price point, making it a reasonable entry into Oral-B's premium platform. Limited to three modes with no display or app features, it's a capable but stripped-down iO experience.
Laifen Wave Special Electric Toothbrush, Meadow Green (B tier)
Laifen Wave Special Electric Toothbrush, Meadow Green
The Laifen Wave combines oscillation and vibration in a hybrid approach with app connectivity and IP68 waterproofing — a genuinely interesting newcomer that's earned positive early attention from reviewers. It's held back from A-tier by its young ecosystem, limited replacement head options, and the need for more long-term reliability data.
Philips Sonicare 5900 Series Electric Toothbrush, White (B tier)
Philips Sonicare 5900 Series Electric Toothbrush, White
The Sonicare 5900 is the entry point of Philips' next-gen platform with six brushing settings and 21-day runtime — a step up from the 4100 but without the full feature set of the 6500. It's a solid mid-range choice that benefits from the new platform's improved battery and motor.
usmile Y10 PRO Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush (B tier)
usmile Y10 PRO Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush
The usmile Y10 PRO stands out with a 180-day battery life and an on-handle smart display showing missed spots and pressure feedback — genuinely innovative features from a newer brand. It's held back from A-tier by a small replacement head ecosystem and limited long-term track record compared to Sonicare and Oral-B.
Philips Sonicare ProtectiveClean Electric Toothbrush (B tier)
Philips Sonicare ProtectiveClean Electric Toothbrush
A ProtectiveClean bundle with both plaque control and gum health brush heads offers good versatility within the proven Sonicare platform. It's a solid mid-range option but doesn't clearly differentiate from the standard ProtectiveClean 5100 or 6100 in core functionality.
Oral-B iO Simple Clean Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush, Black (B tier)
Oral-B iO Simple Clean Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush, Black
The iO Simple Clean is essentially a rebranded iO Series 2/3 with three modes, pressure sensor, and a travel case — competent entry-level iO with the magnetic drive advantage. It's limited by the same lack of display and app features as other low-end iO models.
Philips Sonicare 4100 Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush, White (B tier)
Philips Sonicare 4100 Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush, White
This is the Sonicare 4100 with a brush head case bundled in — same proven sonic technology, pressure sensor, and two intensity settings as the standard 4100. The included case is a nice touch but doesn't change the fundamental B-tier positioning of a single-mode entry Sonicare.
Burst Original Sonic Electric Toothbrush, White (B tier)
Burst Original Sonic Electric Toothbrush, White
Burst has built a legitimate direct-to-consumer brand with soft charcoal-infused bristles and a subscription model for replacement heads, which solves the head replacement problem. Cleaning performance is competent but doesn't match Sonicare or Oral-B's clinical backing, and the subscription model is the real product here.
Oral-B iO Series 2 Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush, Black (B tier)
Oral-B iO Series 2 Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush, Black
The iO Series 2 brings the magnetic drive and pressure sensor to the lowest iO price point with two included heads, making it the most accessible entry into Oral-B's premium platform. Three modes and no display or app keep it firmly in B-tier, but the core cleaning is genuinely better than non-iO Oral-B brushes.
Philips Sonicare ProtectiveClean 4100 Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush, White (B tier)
Philips Sonicare ProtectiveClean 4100 Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush, White
The ProtectiveClean 4100 is a solid entry into the Sonicare ecosystem with a pressure sensor and SmarTimer, but only one cleaning mode limits its versatility. It's the right pick for someone who wants reliable sonic cleaning without complexity, but you're leaving features on the table versus the 5100 or 6100.
Oral-B Pro 1000 Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush, White (B tier)
Oral-B Pro 1000 Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush, White
The Pro 1000 is a proven oscillating-rotating brush with a single cleaning mode and basic pressure sensor — it does the fundamentals well but lacks any modern features like multiple modes or app connectivity. It's the reliable workhorse that hasn't evolved in years, which limits it against newer Oral-B models.
Philips Sonicare 4100 Series Electric Toothbrush, White (B tier)
Philips Sonicare 4100 Series Electric Toothbrush, White
The refreshed Sonicare 4100 is the best entry point into the Sonicare ecosystem — pressure sensor, two intensity settings, SmarTimer, and QuadPacer cover the essentials. It's limited to one cleaning mode and lacks BrushSync, which keeps it out of A-tier, but it's the right brush for most people who just want reliable sonic cleaning.
C
RANVOO AirBlast AI Sonic Electric Toothbrush, Space Gray (C tier)
RANVOO AirBlast AI Sonic Electric Toothbrush, Space Gray
RANVOO's "AirBlast" jet-flow technology and "100% plaque removal" claims are aggressive marketing from a brand with no dental industry track record. The AI features and three brush heads are nice on paper, but without clinical validation or an established ecosystem, this is a risky bet over proven alternatives.
Tao Clean UV Sanitizing Sonic Toothbrush, White (C tier)
Tao Clean UV Sanitizing Sonic Toothbrush, White
The UV sanitizing base is a genuine differentiator, but the actual brushing performance is mediocre compared to Sonicare or Oral-B at this price — you're paying a premium for the docking station gimmick. Replacement heads are proprietary and harder to source than mainstream brands.
PRO-SYS VarioSonic Plus+ Professional Electric Toothbrush, White (C tier)
PRO-SYS VarioSonic Plus+ Professional Electric Toothbrush, White
PRO-SYS is a dental professional brand with five modes and a pressure sensor, but the tiny user base and limited retail presence make replacement heads and long-term support uncertain. It checks feature boxes but lacks the ecosystem depth and clinical validation of major brands.
Aquasonic Vibe Series PRO Ultra-Whitening Electric Toothbrush, Rose Gold (C tier)
Aquasonic Vibe Series PRO Ultra-Whitening Electric Toothbrush, Rose Gold
Aquasonic Vibe PRO adds a UV sanitizing base and ADA acceptance, which lends some credibility, but the core sonic motor and build quality trail Sonicare and Oral-B at similar prices. The UV base is a nice extra but doesn't compensate for middling brushing performance.
SURI 1.0 Sonic Electric Toothbrush, White (C tier)
SURI 1.0 Sonic Electric Toothbrush, White
SURI 1.0 is a design-forward sonic brush with a month-plus battery and sustainability focus, but the cleaning technology is basic sonic vibration without pressure sensing or smart features. It's a lifestyle product first and a dental tool second — fine for people who prioritize sustainability but not for those who want the best clean.
Aquasonic Black Series Ultra Whitening Electric Toothbrush, 2 Pack (C tier)
Aquasonic Black Series Ultra Whitening Electric Toothbrush, 2 Pack
Aquasonic's massive review count reflects aggressive marketing and bundling (two brushes, eight heads, travel case) rather than cleaning superiority — the sonic motor and build quality are a clear step below Sonicare and Oral-B. It's adequate for basic powered brushing but the generic heads wear quickly and the motor lacks refinement.
Made by Dentists PRO-X Sonic Electric Toothbrush (C tier)
Made by Dentists PRO-X Sonic Electric Toothbrush
"Made by Dentists" is a newer brand with a dentist-designed angle and USB-C fast charging, plus a claimed 70-day battery life and 9x plaque removal. The brand is building credibility but lacks the long-term track record, ecosystem depth, and clinical evidence base of Sonicare or Oral-B.
MOON Sonic Electric Toothbrush for Adults, Black (C tier)
MOON Sonic Electric Toothbrush for Adults, Black
MOON is a lifestyle oral care brand that claims a six-week battery life, which is genuinely impressive if accurate, but the sonic cleaning mechanism is unproven against clinical benchmarks. Five modes and a travel case check the feature boxes, but there's no pressure sensor and the replacement head ecosystem is thin.
ORDO Sonic+ Electric Toothbrush for Adults, Pearl Violet (C tier)
ORDO Sonic+ Electric Toothbrush for Adults, Pearl Violet
ORDO is a UK-based brand offering four modes and a silicone polishing element, but it lacks a pressure sensor and has a very limited replacement head ecosystem outside its own store. The four-week battery claim is solid, but the cleaning fundamentals don't compete with Sonicare or Oral-B at this price.
Sonic-FX Duo Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush Set (C tier)
Sonic-FX Duo Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush Set
The dual-handle set offers decent value for households, but the brushing performance is generic sonic vibration without the refinement of Sonicare or Oral-B motors. Included heads are plentiful but wear quickly, and build quality feels plasticky.
Philips Sonicare Easy Clean Sonic Electric Toothbrush (C tier)
Philips Sonicare Easy Clean Sonic Electric Toothbrush
An older Sonicare model that still delivers competent sonic cleaning but is outclassed by the newer 4100 series in every meaningful way — fewer features, older battery tech, and no pressure sensor. There's little reason to choose this over its direct successor at a similar price point.
MySmile UC605 Rechargeable Sonic Electric Toothbrush, Black (C tier)
MySmile UC605 Rechargeable Sonic Electric Toothbrush, Black
MySmile offers five modes and a travel case at a competitive price, but it's a lesser-known brand with a limited replacement head ecosystem and no clinical backing for its cleaning claims. Functional but unremarkable — you're better served by an entry-level Sonicare or Oral-B with proven performance.
Philips Sonicare ProtectiveClean Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush, White/Grey (C tier)
Philips Sonicare ProtectiveClean Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush, White/Grey
A stripped-down ProtectiveClean variant with only one mode and a shorter claimed battery life than the 4100 series — it cleans fine but offers the bare minimum Sonicare experience. The 4100 is a better buy in the same ecosystem with more features.
D
Omron Media Clean Electric Toothbrush, White (D tier)
Omron Media Clean Electric Toothbrush, White
An obscure Omron model with a wildly inflated price for basic electric toothbrush functionality and virtually no ecosystem for replacement heads outside Japan. The cleaning performance doesn't justify a fraction of what's being asked compared to Oral-B iO or Sonicare DiamondClean.
Supersmile Zina45 Deluxe Sonic Pulse Toothbrush (D tier)
Supersmile Zina45 Deluxe Sonic Pulse Toothbrush
A niche brand charging a steep premium for an angled brush head design with no clinical evidence it outperforms standard sonic brushes. Tiny user base means limited real-world feedback, and replacement heads are expensive and hard to find.
SNOW LED Whitening Electric Toothbrush, Polar Blue Gen2 (D tier)
SNOW LED Whitening Electric Toothbrush, Polar Blue Gen2
SNOW's LED "whitening" toothbrush relies on blue LED light therapy with no credible clinical evidence that it whitens teeth during brushing — it's a marketing gimmick attached to a basic sonic brush. The core brushing technology doesn't justify the price when proven alternatives exist.
Sonic Electric Toothbrush, Slate Gray (D tier)
Sonic Electric Toothbrush, Slate Gray
A generic no-name sonic toothbrush with a protective case and USB-C charging but no brand ecosystem, no pressure sensor, and no distinguishing technology. There's nothing here that justifies choosing it over entry-level Sonicare or Oral-B models.
Vanity Planet Elements Ultrasonic Electric Toothbrush, Silver (D tier)
Vanity Planet Elements Ultrasonic Electric Toothbrush, Silver
A lifestyle brand toothbrush with UV sanitizing as its main selling point but unproven sonic cleaning performance and a tiny user base. Replacement heads are proprietary and the brand has minimal presence in oral care — this is a vanity purchase, not a dental hygiene one.
Sonic Electric Toothbrush for Adults, White (D tier)
Sonic Electric Toothbrush for Adults, White
A generic white-label sonic toothbrush with no brand ecosystem, questionable replacement head availability long-term, and no distinguishing technology. There's no reason to gamble on this when established brands offer comparable specs with proven reliability.
AI Electric Toothbrush with Smart Sonic Technology (D tier)
AI Electric Toothbrush with Smart Sonic Technology
An unknown brand touting "AI" brushing maps and 150-day battery with no credible technology behind the claims — the AI features are almost certainly basic accelerometer data repackaged with buzzwords. Six included heads don't compensate for the lack of a real ecosystem or proven cleaning performance.
Philips Sonicare Battery Toothbrush, Midnight Blue (D tier)
Philips Sonicare Battery Toothbrush, Midnight Blue
A battery-powered (non-rechargeable) Sonicare that delivers a fraction of the cleaning performance of any rechargeable model in the lineup. It's essentially a powered manual toothbrush — fine for travel emergencies but not a real electric toothbrush replacement.
F
ALL IN Sonic Electric Toothbrush with LED Light Therapy (F tier)
ALL IN Sonic Electric Toothbrush with LED Light Therapy
An unknown brand selling LED light therapy as a brushing feature with zero clinical evidence and virtually no user base — this is a gimmick product with no proven cleaning advantage over a manual toothbrush. There is no reason to buy this over any established electric toothbrush.

Electric Toothbrush Criteria

S-tier electric toothbrushes combine a proven cleaning mechanism (oscillating-rotating or high-frequency sonic) with meaningful smart features like accurate pressure sensors, brush head recognition, and app connectivity that actually improves brushing habits. They have long battery life (2+ weeks minimum), use widely available replacement heads from established ecosystems, and are backed by extensive clinical testing. The motor and bristle action should demonstrably outperform manual brushing, and the build should feel solid enough to last years in a wet bathroom environment.

Mid-tier products (B and C) typically nail the basics — they clean well enough and have decent battery life — but cut corners on features like pressure sensing accuracy, number of cleaning modes that are actually distinct, or brush head ecosystem depth. You'll often find shorter battery life, fewer included heads, or a reliance on generic sonic vibration without the refinement of premium models. These brushes get the job done but may lack the travel case, app integration, or intensity customization that make daily use more convenient.

D and F tier products are characterized by weak or unproven cleaning mechanisms, no-name brands with no replacement head ecosystem, gimmicky features like LED "whitening" lights with no clinical backing, or wildly inflated pricing for what you get. Red flags include brushes where replacement heads are hard to find or proprietary to an obscure brand, extremely low vibration counts dressed up with marketing jargon, and products that prioritize aesthetics or novelty over actual oral hygiene fundamentals. If a brush can't reliably clean better than a manual toothbrush or won't last more than a year, it belongs here.
